How many thoughts do you have in a day?

A quick Google search turns up a variety of numbers, all in the range of 40,000 to 70,000. That number blows my mind. It is a lot of different thoughts!

How many of those thoughts are directed at yourself?

Maybe you’re standing in the shower in the morning, thinking about your to do list for the day. Most of those thoughts are directed at yourself: “I need to go to the grocery store after work, and ugh, I have that work meeting that I need to spend some time prepping for–oh! And what should I wear?”

How quickly does that train of thought turn negative?

Maybe it’s one negative thought about your clothes. But maybe it spirals and turns into many negative thoughts about your body and appearance.

“You will never speak to anyone more than you speak to yourself in your head. Be kind to yourself.”

Because of the number of thoughts we have each day, it is important to monitor how we speak to ourselves. Today’s quote reminds us that we speak more to ourselves in our heads than we do to anyone else throughout the day. We are impacting our minds and spirit with every thought we have.

If we begin to monitor our thoughts, we can change them. When we change our thoughts, we can change our lives.

I like to surround myself with uplifting messages. It is one of the reasons that I love quotes and I love Notes to Self socks. These are all little reminders for me of positive and uplifting thoughts. When we add the positive, we don’t have any more room for the negative. This is true with both our diet and with our thoughts. It’s simple to add positive words to your life; write yourself a note on your bathroom mirror, or stick a post-it to your computer. Read uplifting words. Spend time speaking kindly to yourself.

All these small things can change your thoughts, which will change your life.
